The 2024 fiscal year marked the end of the old even revenue-distribution model within the Atlantic Coast Conference, and tax records showed that the ACC was one of two Power Five conferences to see an increase in its revenue.

According to a report by Steve Berkowitz of USA Today, the ACC pulled in $711.4 million during the 2024 fiscal year, which was the third most out of the power conferences.

The Big 10 saw an increase and pulled in the most revenue with $928.1 million. The SEC ($839.7 million), who welcomed Texas and Oklahoma, Pac-12 ($566.6 million) and Big 12 ($493.8 million) all saw declines in revenue.

Member program payouts for the ACC ranged between $43.1 million to $46,4 million, expect Notre Dame, which brought in $20.7 million.

Overall, the ACC saw an increase, up from $706.7 million for the 2023 fiscal year. The conference did see a jump in outside legal expenses from $7.2 million to $12.3 million due to membership disputes with Clemson and Florida State, along with the House-NCAA litigation, per Berkowitz.

The revenue-distribution in the ACC will see a shakeup for the upcoming fiscal year, however. With the ACC settling a lengthy lawsuit with Florida State and Clemson, a new payout model was adopted that will take into account viewership from the conference’s contract with ESPN and the ACC Network. The new fiscal year starts on July 1, 2025.

It will be based on a five-year rolling average of television ratings with 60% of the revenue being divided on “brand initiative” — viewership. The other 40% will be evenly distributed among the 14 longstanding members, not including SMU, California and Stanford.

Top brands in the conference could pull in an additional $15 million more than some of the other member schools, ESPN reported back in early March.
