Former Pitt standout guard Bub Carrington had a tremendous rookie season in the NBA, and the association took notice.

On Tuesday, the NBA released its annual all-rookie teams, and Carrington made the cut. Carrington earned Second Team All-Rookie honors for his stellar play in year one of his professional basketball career.

Carrington played in all 82 games as a rookie in the NBA this year. He averaged 9.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game for the Wizards, earning 57 starts in his 82 games played. Carrington played 30 minutes per game as a rookie in the association.

His teammate, Alex Sarr, earned First Team All-Rookie honors. Despite the poor record last season, the Wizards have a bright future, with Sarr, Carrington, Kyshawn George, and others leading the way.

The Wizards selected Carrington with the 14th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, trading with the Portland Trail Blazers to secure his talents, and he is getting a chance to play big minutes as a rookie. Carrington was the first former Pitt Panther to be selected in the NBA Draft since Cameron Johnson (Minnesota Timberwolves, 11th overall) in the 2019 NBA Draft — and the first Panther selected directly out of Pittsburgh since Lamar Patterson (Milwaukee Bucks, 48th overall) in 2014.

It was a highly successful single season for Carrington in Pittsburgh, as he averaged 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game, on 41/32/79 shooting splits, and emerged as one of the top true freshmen in college basketball.

Carrington scored in double digits 22 times during the 2023-24 season for Pitt, including four performances of 20 plus points, and he was the only freshman in college basketball who averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. 15 freshmen hit that mark since 1992-93.
