Star Pitt Guard Officially Declares for NBA Draft
Pitt’s second-leading scorer from last season has declared for the NBA Draft.
Ishmael Leggett has officially declared for the NBA Draft, according to a social media post made by his mother.
Ishmael Leggett’s mother Renee Leggett shared that her son has declared for the NBA Draft.
A 6-foot-3 guard, Leggett came to Pitt after beginning his career at Rhode Island. He has played 25+ games in five different seasons of college basketball so far. Leggett played 31 games this past year for Pitt, setting a career-high with 35.4 minutes of action per game. He shot 45% from the field and 35% from three-point range for the Panthers, scoring 15.7 points per game and averaging 5.9 rebounds per contest too
Leggett, in three seasons at URI and two at Pitt, posted totals of 1,812 career college points, 285 assists, 703 rebounds, 171 three pointers, and 184 steals. Leggett earned the ACC’s Sixth Man of the Year award after his first season at Pitt in which he averaged 12.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists and only started 14 of Pitt’s 32 games behind Bub Carrington and Jaland Lowe. He then started all 31 games in his final season with Pitt, this past year.
Leggett, as well as hundreds of other NCAA players, entered the transfer portal in case of an NCAA rule change that would benefit them with an extra year of eligibility. The NCAA transfer portal still allows players to enter even if they have exhausted all of their collegiate eligibility. However, now, it appears that he is fully focused on his future professional basketball career.
