All 105 is a Pittsburgh Sports Now series profiling each member of the Pitt 2025 training camp roster. In order to prepare for Pitt football’s 2025 season, PSN is breaking down every player on the roster in alphabetical order. Next up is tight end Josh Altsman.

Walk-on tight end Josh Altsman, a Central Catholic grad, enters his fourth season with Pitt in 2025 as a redshirt junior.

Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 235 pounds
Hometown: Zelienople, Pa.

2024 season: Did not play in any games.

Stats: Altsman has not recorded any stats during his time at Pitt.

Camp outlook: During spring camp, Altsman primarily worked off to the side with the trainers as he worked back from an injury and sat out for the Blue-Gold spring game. The upcoming fall camp will be more so about getting back into the rhythm of the offense and returning to his high-energy form.

Projected role: Pitt’s tight end room features four scholarship players in Jake Overman, Malachi Thomas, Marshall transfer Justin Holmes and freshman Max Hunt. Overman and Thomas will be factoring in as the top two options with Holmes not far behind primarily as a blocker. It’s safe to say Altsman is right there in the mix for the fourth option on the depth chart when considering Hunt could redshirt and not see the field this year.

If anything, Altsman will be a special teams option, but could potentially see the field as an experienced blocking tight end throughout the year.

At this point in his career and the second year of Kade Bell’s offense, Altsman knows the ins and outs of the program. His brother, Matt, spent five seasons with Pitt as an offensive lineman.

A quote about Altsman: “Josh Altsman, golly, a local kid, he will throw his body on the line every single day,” tight ends coach Jacob Bronowski said during Pitt’s 2024 spring camp. “He wakes up and eats glass every single morning, and it makes him fun to coach. Just reckless abandonment with his body. We put in our split zone stuff and he’s flying across and just leaving it all out there.”
