It was decision day for one of Pitt football’s top 2026 running back targets in Kory Amachree.

The four-star prospect had Pitt in his top six options, but Amachree selected the Kansas Jayhawks Friday afternoon via livestream at Haslett High School in Michigan.

Amachree’s recruitment came down to a two-horse race between Kansas and Michigan State, where his father played, but it was the Jayhawks that pulled ahead and landed the commitment.

Amachree narrowed down his 38 Division I offers to a final six last week of Pitt, Kansas, Michigan State, Duke, Indiana and Harvard.

On3 rates Amachree as a four-star prospect, the No. 22 running back in the class and fourth-best player out of Michigan.

The Panthers recruited Amachree for over a year after area recruiter Archie Collins offered last May and then Amachree visited Pitt during fall camp last year.

Running backs coach Lindsey Lamar continued the push for the talented running back after visiting him in-person a few weeks ago. Amachree also recently told Pittsburgh Sports Now that he was still very interested in the Panthers.

Amachree was scheduled to visit Pitt on June 19-21, but then shifted those dates and was expected on campus from May 15-17. He then backed off those dates as well.

He took an official visit to Kansas in early April and had a scheduled visit at Michigan State for one on the weekend of May 30.

During his junior season at Haslett, Amachree amassed 1,394 all-purpose yards with 1,102 coming on the ground, along with 19 touchdowns in six games played.
