Pittsburgh Native Joins Arkansas Basketball Team

Pittsburgh’s own Amere Brown has joined the Arkansas basketball team, he confirmed to Pittsburgh Sports Now.
Brown is a 5-foot-10 point guard out of Woodland Hills. He held an offer for basketball from Bryant, and was also a standout on the football field. He now joins his close friend Meleek Thomas on the Razorbacks’ roster, playing for Pittsburgh-area native John Calipari.
“My role is just to be the glue guy,” Brown told PSN. “Keep the locker room happy, support everyone, and push everyone and make everyone better!”
Brown becomes the third WPIAL product in as many years to commit to Arkansas under Calipari, joining Thomas as well as Adou Thiero, who is currently in the NBA Draft process after two seasons in Fayetteville.
Thomas signed with the Razorbacks last fall.
“Thank you to Coach Cal, thank you to the Razorback family, thank you to all of the coaches and the staff for showing support since day one, being there for me,” Thomas said. “When I step on campus I’m going to return that energy. It’s going to be a great year, it’s going to be a fun time. With that being said, I’m going to sign to my school.”
He broke down the commitment with PSN afterwards.
“Just the love they showed,” Thomas told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “Continuing through the whole process, they showed love to my family, not only to me, but also to my family. Play style. They’re just big on me, so I’m big on them.”
Thomas has had a tight-knit relationship with Calipari since his early high-school days at Lincoln Park.
“I’ve had that relationship with Coach Cal for years now,” Thomas said. “It’s always just progressed, it never went down. He just showed love and makes me feel like I should be at Arkansas.”
