Since the series was renewed in 2022, Pitt has won two out of the three meetings with the home team winning every matchup. Most recently, Pitt defeated the Mountaineers in comeback fashion, 38-34, at Acrisure Stadium.
During the 2023 meeting in Morgantown, Pitt fell in a low-scoring defensive battle 17-6.
The Panthers also released start times and the television networks for the first two home games of the season.
On Aug. 30, Pitt will take on crosstown foe Duquesne in the football version of the City Game. That game will start at noon and be televised on the ACC Network. It will mark just the eighth all-time meeting between the two programs and first since 1939.
A week later on Sept. 6, Pitt will host Central Michigan. Kickoff is slated for noon and will be shown on ESPN U. It will be the first meeting between the two schools since 1947. Central Michigan has defeated Pitt in both previous matchups.
Pitt’s other marquee games for the 2025 season include home matchups with Louisville (Sept. 27), Notre Dame (Nov. 15) and Miami (Nov. 29), along with road contests at Florida State and Georgia Tech with those start times still too be announced.
The Panthers are coming off a season that saw a promising 7-0 start slip away with six consecutive losses, including a loss in the GameAbove Bowl against Toledo.
Key returners for the Panthers this season include quarterback Eli Holstein, All-American running back Desmond Reid and wide receiver Kenny Johnson on offense, along with All-American linebacker Kyle Louis, Rasheem Biles, safety Javon McIintyre and others on the defensive side of the ball.
