Pitt walk-on offensive lineman Ty Banco

All 105 is a Pittsburgh Sports Now series profiling each member of the Pitt 2025 training camp roster. In order to prepare for Pitt football’s 2025 season, PSN is breaking down every player on the roster in alphabetical order. Next up is offensive lineman Ty Banco.

Ty Banco joins Pitt as a preferred walk-on offensive lineman after transferring from Texas A&M. The WPIAL and Trinity High School product spent two seasons with the Aggies and has three years of eligibility remaining.

Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 330 pounds
Hometown: Washington, Pa.

2024 season: Banco did not play any games at Texas A&M during his redshirt freshman season.

Camp outlook: Banco will begin a new chapter of his collegiate career at Pitt this fall. Still on the younger side as a redshirt sophomore, Banco will look to learn Kade Bell’s offensive system and start developing under offensive line coach Jeremy Darveau.

Projected role: Pitt lost five offensive lineman in the spring portal, including two walk-ons. Banco will look to fill in where some of those gaps remain and join some of the other incoming freshman lineman — Shep Turk, Torian Chester and Jordan Fields — deep down on the roster in his first year with the program.

Banco, who will slot in as an interior offensive lineman, brings some nice SEC experience that can be beneficial when taking scout team reps against some of the top defensive units on the Pitt depth chart. He has aspirations of becoming a starter at Pitt and that’s not out of the question with the track record of several offensive lineman turning into starters including center Jimmy Morrissey.

“As far as being a walk-on, they said that I’d still be a part of the 105 stuff if that grandfather stuff doesn’t go into effect,” Banco told PSN. “So, I’d still be on the roster and after that, everything would be up to me and what I show them and how I produce. If I’m able to do that, I can get on the field and play.”

A return back to Pittsburgh means playing more in front of friends and family.

“This means everything to me,” Banco said. “Instead of my parents having to catch a flight early in the morning, they just down 30 minutes. I’m going to love the chance to play in front of my family and I believe that will bring the best out of me.”

Coming out of high school, Banco received FCS interest from East Tennessee State, along with some Division II and III offers from Edinboro, St. Vincent and others.
