Former Pitt Target, ACC Guard Commits to New School

One of Pitt’s former targets in the high school recruiting world is off the board after entering the transfer portal this spring.

Ty-Laur Johnson, who has played for both Louisville and Wake Forest in the ACC, has committed to and signed with San Diego. Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports first reported the news.

Johnson went to Louisville after Pitt filled out its 2023 recruiting class with Jaland Lowe and Bub Carrington in the back court. He played just one season with Louisville before transferring to Wake Forest within the ACC heading into this past season. This year for the Demon Deacons, he averaged 6.1 points per game while shooting 35% from the field. Johnson shot 19% from three as a freshman, and 24% from three as a sophomore.

Pitt’s current back court for this upcoming year includes the following players: Omari Witherspoon, Beebah Cummings, Damarco Minor, and Nojus Indrusaitis. Witherspoon is the lone freshman of the group, coming from Washington D.C. to join the Panthers.

Cummings, a 6-foot-3 guard, averaged 6.3 points and 1.6 rebounds per game as a freshman at Pitt. He played in 31 games, averaging 16 minutes of action per contest. Cummings shot 38% from three as one of the team’s best three-point shooting options once Damian Dunn battled injuries.

Indrusaitis, who spent his high-school years in the Chicago area, was ranked as the No. 96 player and a four-star prospect in the class of 2024 before going to Iowa State. He played for Meanstreets EYBL and also competed for Saint Rita High School in Chicago before going to Brewster Academy.

Minor, a 6-foot senior guard out of Chicago, averaged 9.8 points and 5.1 assists per game for the Beavers this past season. Prior to his time at Oregon State, he spent two seasons at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
