As we say many times, just because a player makes a verbal commitment, that doesn’t mean their recruitment is over as Jay Timmons is finding out.

It’s been an interesting last week for the talented defensive back from Pine-Richland High School.

Things started out by Timmons being elevated to a 4-star recruit by 247 Sports, which was followed by him having a standout performance at the UA Next Prospects Camp in New Jersey.  During this camp, Timmons was clocked at a 4.4 in the 40.

Things didn’t end there as Timmons once again excelled at a prospects camp, this time at Florida State. The obvious story line there is the fact that Florida State is where Jay’s father, Lawrence, starred at before becoming a 1st-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The highlight of this past week for Timmons was after the FSU camp and him receiving word that he’d earned a scholarship offer from Florida State.

Receiving his offer should make the upcoming weeks and months interesting because Timmons gave a commitment to Indiana back on April 29th.

Pittsburgh Sports Now had the chance to catch up with Timmons to talk to him about this offer and his future.

“I talked with Coach G Moss and Coach Norvell, and I wasn’t surprised, but I was fulfilled as that’s an offer I’ve wanted since I was a little kid,” Timmons told PSN. “Coach Norvell told me I worked for it and that I’m going to be great there.”

“They want me to visit, and I think I’m going to take an official visit as I’ve only taken one and I want to compare it to Indiana. It’s going to be hard for any school to top Indiana. Indiana is going to stay above the major schools because Indiana is a major school itself and a college football playoff team. But I don’t want to close any doors too early either.”

Sure sounds like Timmons has a lot to think about and consider. Stay tuned.
