The priority that the Pitt coaching staff has put on recruiting the state of Texas over the last few years has been well chronicled.

Led by Jacob Bronowski, Randy Bates, Jeremy Darveau and Kade Bell, Pitt recruited then entire state of Texas more over this offseason than ever before in the history of the program.

Today, Pitt received some fruit from their labor in the Lone Star state as they landed a commitment from a big, athletic tight end.

Wyatt Villarreal, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound athlete from Celine (Tx.) High School announced his commitment to Pitt following his official visit.

This was Villarreal’s second official visit (Louisianna Tech) and held other offers from programs such as Arizona, California, Colorado, Appalachian State, New Mexico State, North Texas, Oregon State, South Florida, San Diego State, Texas State, Tulsa, UNLV, UTEP, Utah State and UT-San Antonio.

Although Bronowski and Pitt didn’t officially extend Villarreal an offer until May 7th, their interest in him went way back into 2024.

Villarreal becomes the first tight end in Pitt’s Class of 2026 and with their need at the position, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them add a second tight end for this recruiting class.

Villarreal joins 3-star quarterback Angelo Renda and 3-star OT Nicholas Howard as Pitt’s third recruit in the Class of 2026 from Texas and their 6th over the last 6 years (OT Jordan Fields/Houston, Texas), RB Che Nwabuko/Manor, Texas), DB Marquan Pope/Denton, Texas and QB Nate Yarnell/Austin, Texas).
