Pitt Football Enjoying Record Success in Texas

Published

on

The Pitt football program made a decision three years ago to add Texas as a main territory to their recruiting map.

They did the same thing years ago to states such as Michigan, Virginia and Georgia, with mixed results.

Up until this year, Pitt’s recruiting success in Texas was minimal but that’s not been the case this year as they’re enjoying record success.

The latest example came this morning as 2026 four-star offensive lineman Day’Jon Moore announced his commitment to Pitt following his official visit. This was a major get for the Panthers as Moore selected Pitt over other offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Houston, Kansas, Nebraska, Ohio State, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt.

This becomes the second consecutive recruiting year that Pitt has received a commitment from a Texas four-star offensive lineman as last year it was Jordan Fields from Houston.

The big picture story of Moore joining Pitt is that of Pitt’s current 19 commitments in 2026, five have come from the Lone Star State. Much credit for this needs to go to Jacob Bronowski, who’s led the way and has scoured all parts of Texas. Also need to mention Randy Bates and Kade Bell for their efforts.

Moore, the native of Willis, Texas, joins fellow Texans- 3-star quarterback Corey Dailey (Seguin, Texas), 3-star offensive tackle Nicholas Howard (Pearland, Texas), 3-star Wyatt Villareal (Celina, Texas) and 3-star quarterback Angelo Renda (Southlake, Texas).

Getting five commitments from this talent rich state is huge progress for Pat Narduzzi and Pitt compared to the last few seasons:

Pitt Commitments From Texas:

Class of 2026: 5

Class of 2025: 1

Class of 2024: 0

Class of 2023: 0

Class of 2022: 2

Class of 2021:  1

I’ll be honest, I questioned whether Pitt was wasting a lot of time and effort into trying to get players from a state that had Power Four programs such as Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, SMU, Houston and TCU. Looks like Narduzzi knew what he was doing and is treating Texas like he does the state of Florida. When you have that much talent, if you put the work in and are able to properly evaluate players, you’ll have a chance.

That looks to be the case with Pitt and keep in mind that the number five could still go up this year as they’re still in contention for a couple more players.
