Hometown Pitt Offer a ‘Blessing’ for 2027 OL Jon Sassic

Hard work and dedication to fitness has led to Central Catholic’s Jon Sassic receiving an offer from Pitt.
The 6-foot-6, 285-pound offensive lineman was one of many players taking part in yesterday’s Pitt prospect camp and trying to catch the eye of the Pitt staff.
A year ago, Sassic also camped at Pitt but left without an offer. That wasn’t the case on Sunday as he got the news from Pitt offensive line coach Jeremy Darveau. Sassic was one of only a handful of players to receive an offer from Pat Narduzzi.

The junior lineman now holds offers from NC State, Kent State, Miami (OH), Buffalo, Sacramento State and Toledo.
Over the last few months, Sassic has very busy traveling to various camps in order to get in front of coaches to showcase his skills along with making unofficial visits. Some of those places include Pitt, Toledo, Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Buffalo and Miami (Ohio).
Sassic has made various trips to Pitt in the past, including his latest one in March for spring practice so the staff was familiar with him. Despite attending the camp with the ultimate goal of receiving an offer that wasn’t consuming Sassic’s thoughts.
“Honestly, I was going there just to try and perform the best I could because last year at the camp I didn’t do the best I could,” Sassic tells PSN. “I just wanted to put my name on their map and just do the best I could.”
Obviously, he accomplished that goal because the staff was impressed enough to offer the talented lineman on the spot.
“I believe I improved upon and showed them my grit, my physical toughness and leadership skills,” Sassic said. “I was a grinder this year as opposed to last year when I was soft, slow and out of shape. Now, I’m in shape which helped me perform better. Actually, Coach Narduzzi commented a couple times to me about how in shape I was. I think that he saw that was huge for me.
“Coach Darveau offered me in the offensive line meeting room. He told me that he saw my potential. This is an early offer for me since I haven’t even started my junior year, yet which makes this pretty cool and pretty surreal. This is also big because of my brother playing at Pitt, which is a huge deal for me. Coach Darveau also mentioned how good and in shape I looked. I’m on a strict diet and am happy I’m showing everyone the best I can be.”
Sassic referenced his fitness multiple times, so I was curious as to what he was doing/eating to get his body right.
“I just eat rice and chicken; I try not to eat too much rice though because that’s a lot of carbs. So, rice, chicken and a lot of water. The biggest part is snacking which I used to do a lot of, but you can’t do that. You have to stick to three meals and maybe a light snack like beef jerky. Also have to have constant workouts.”
The meaning of an offer from Pitt to local players has been the topic of constant conversation but Sassic is one of those players that considers a Pitt offer just another offer.
“This is a big offer for me. I’m a hometown guy; I grew up in the city. I go to Central, but most people know that I live in the inner city and would’ve gone to Alderdice if it didn’t work out at Central. This is a huge offer for me and my family, my mom was pretty excited when I got it. She was in the room with me when I got it.
“This really is a big deal to me. Growing up in the city, I’ve always been a Pitt fan. I have video of me wearing Pitt clothes, have always been a Pitt fan. This offer from Pitt is huge and really a blessing.”
