When evaluating prospects, the Pitt coaching staff looks far and wide for players that fit their program, but sometimes they are not as far as they seem.

Pitt has seen the growth of defensive tackle Francis Brewu on the field, but the Panthers have also found a potential future player in his bloodline.

On Sunday, Pitt offered 2026 defensive back/athlete Joseph Brewu, the younger brother of Francis, while at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.

The offer came from head coach Pat Narduzzi following a performance at Pitt’s one day camp. It’s the first Division I offer for Brewu, who attends Thomas Worthington High School in Worthington, Ohio.

It’s a big step for the 6-foot-2, 180-pound Brewu, who has been attending camps and visiting schools around the region for well over a year now in search of his first D-I offer. As a junior, Brewu primarily played cornerback and he runs a 4.52 40-yard dash, according to his X account.

Brewu has become familiar with the Pitt program after spending several gamedays in the fall at Acrisure Stadium watching his older brother make an impact on the field as a true freshman.

In similar fashion, Pitt targeted 2027 Florida running back Tyler Reid, the younger brother of current Pitt running back Desmond Reid. Pitt was one of Reid’s only Division I offers and he turned it into a commitment. Now, he is rated a three-star prospect and the 21st running back in the class.
