As Seguin High School quarterback Corey Dailey navigated his recruiting process entering the summer months between his junior and senior year, he only owned one Power Four offer.

Many of the schools that inquired looked at him as a project type player, but it was that lone Power Four program that saw something different.

What Pitt offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kade Bell pitched to Dailey was so enticing that it was too good to pass up.

“Really him telling me that the sky’s the limit and one day I could be a Heisman Trophy winner, he thinks,” Dailey told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “He thinks he can develop me to get there or win an ACC Championship, making me a quarterback to get me to the league. That really stood out to me. I think he’ll be able to do it with his past history of quarterbacks.”

That vision and optimism from Bell resonated with Dailey and led to a commitment from the three-star Texas signal caller on Saturday while on his official visit.

“It means a lot him taking a chance on me,” Dailey said. “Most colleges don’t want to because most colleges say I’m a project like I got to develop and put some weight on. I’m not like other kids where I’m just ready to go play. It meant a lot when he told me he wanted to develop me and get me ready to play in the league and in the ACC and be one of the top quarterbacks in it.”

The environment surrounding the Pitt program is exactly what Dailey has grown up around and fits his style.

“I really like the offense they run. How they play, the mentality of their program, hard-nosed football. It’s what I grew up playing. It felt like home just like I was playing for my high school in Seguin,” he said.

Another added benefit is the opportunity to learn from Pitt players who went onto the NFL and those who are currently in the league with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I think the coolest one was I got to meet Aaron Donald. Watching Aaron Rogers practice and getting to meet the Steelers quarterback coach and talking to him. I think it’s really cool. You’ll be able to learn from the pros and how they do things. It’s a learning opportunity from a quarterback standpoint to watch pros practice and what you need to do to get there and how they work,” Dailey said.

For the 6-foot-6 Dailey, he feels he has the tools to make an impact in Bell’s offense.

“I have a strong arm, sit in the pocket and make throws with the deep route concepts they run. I might not be the dual-threat guy that everybody wants, but I’m going to extend plays and get the ball out of my hand to let the guys go make plays,” he said.

With Dailey’s commitment to the Pitt program, he becomes the second quarterback in the 2026 class and it’s something he doesn’t mind.

“It doesn’t really bother me,” he said. “College is college, you’re going to have to fight for the competition no matter what. It doesn’t matter who it is or who they bring in with the transfer portal or a kid from high school. That’s going to be every year in college, they’re going to try and bring in someone better than you.”

Dailey put together some impressive numbers as a junior at Seguin with 2,529 passing yards, 35 passing touchdowns to go along with six rushing scores. Dailey has displayed his arm strength throughout the past couple of months at various camps and showcases.
