Pitt All 105 is a Pittsburgh Sports Now series profiling each member of the Pitt 2025 training camp roster. In order to prepare for Pitt football’s 2025 season, PSN is breaking down every player on the roster in alphabetical order. Next up is placekicker Trey Butkowski.

The Pitt kicking unit has some big shoes to fill in the coming years with Ben Sauls moving onto the National Football League.

Sauls was a do-it-all kicker for the Panthers between his consistency and range as he became a mainstay for several years.

For the 2025 season and further down the road, Pitt will have a new option in true freshman Trey Butkowski working towards becoming the next great kicker at Pitt.

Height: 6-foot
Weight: 175 pounds
Hometown: Orlando, Fla.

Prior to Pitt: Butkowski was rated as a five-star prospect and No. 9 kicker in the 2025 class, according to the Kohl’s Professional Camps.

As a senior at Lake Nona High School, he connected on 13-of-14 field goals with a long of 58 yards, which broke a school and Central Florida distance record. He was perfect on extra point attempts, going 23-of-23.

Thanks to his performance this past fall, Butkowski earned First Team All-American honors from Kohl’s and also participated in the Polynesian Bowl, which he received First-Team recognition.

Special teams coordinator Jacob Bronowski started to form a strong connection with Butkowski, who visited for the Cal game in the fall. He then received a preferred walk-on offer in December and then committed to the Panthers by the end of the month.

“I mean to me it was a relatively easy decision, Pitt has a long history of great kickers and coach Bronowski is a guy that I see myself progressing massively under,” Butkowski told PSN in December. “Besides that it was really just the love I felt from the whole program since the first time I ever even went to a camp that ultimately aided my decision to commit.”

Camp outlook: It will be Butkowski’s first camp with Pitt this fall and will be more about learning and developing under Bronowski. If Butkowski does come in and impress, then an opportunity to see the field could come sooner rather than later.

Projected role: As of now, Butkowski looks to be the third kicker on Pitt’s depth chart behind Murray State transfer James London and redshirt sophomore Sam Carpenter. There will be an ongoing battle entering camp between London and Carpenter for the starting job.

With a strong leg showcased in high school, if Butkowski can be consistent during camp, that will leave an intriguing option for Bronowski at his disposal. If London and Carpenter don’t live up to the standard set over the past few seasons, Butkowski could be right in the mix.
