WPIAL DB Lawrence ‘Jay’ Timmons Flips Commitment to Continue Legacy

Speculation had been swirling over the past few weeks of whether or not WPIAL and Pine-Richland defensive back Lawrence ‘Jay’ Timmons would remain committed to Indiana.
That’s because he landed an offer from Florida State — the school his father, longtime NFL and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons, went to.
The legacy will now continue as Timmons has flipped his commitment to Florida State, it was announced Tuesday evening.

Timmons, a four-star recruit in the 2026 class, had been committed to Indiana since late April. He selected the Hoosiers over other top offers from Pitt, Virginia, Iowa State, Iowa, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Syracuse and others.
Despite being pledged to Indiana, he continued to field interest from Power Four programs and ultimately FSU jumped in after he camped in Tallahassee, Fla. on June 1.
Over the past few months, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound Timmons has seen his recruiting status improve as he holds a four-star rating from both 247Sports and ESPN. The former ranks him as the 23rd-best cornerback in the cycle and ninth-best player in Pennsylvania.
Timmons helped Pine-Richland this past fall win the WPIAL Class 5A Championship in which totaled four receptions for 81 yards at receiver, while posting two tackles, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup in the win. It was highlighted by a 22-yard touchdown reception over top of a Peters Township defender as the Rams went on to win 20-9.
Timmons earned First-Team All-State honors after compiling 42 tackles, four interceptions, 10 pass breakups and three forced fumbles. He also added 40 receptions for 755 yards and eight touchdowns.
