Pitt Wrestling Lands Heavyweight Caleb Rodriguez

Head coach Keith Gavin and the Pitt wrestling program have landed a big in-state recruit.
Bishop McCort senior standout Caleb Rodriguez has announced his commitment to the Pitt wrestling program.
This past season, the heavyweight finished with a record of 35-11 and earned a third-place finish in the PIAA Class 2A Tournament. Rodriguez was also a District 6 runner-up and took 4th place at the Southwest Regional.

One of Rodriguez’s highlight wins this season was when he beat Somerset’s Rowan Holmes, which was his only loss this season. Holmes has signed with Lehigh and earned a PIAA gold medal.
Rodriguez is just one of a number of standout wrestlers within the Bishop McCort program, along with two-time state champions Bo Bassett, Jax Forrest (Oklahoma State commit), Melvin Miller, Sam Herring (Penn State commitment) and Owen McMullen (Iowa State commit).
Rodriguez will be joining a Pitt program last season that went 10-6 overall, 3-3 in the ACC and will be returning heavyweight Dayton Pitzer, who was named the most valuable wrestler at the ACC Tournament.
Rodriguez joins Nadav Nafshi (Fort Washington, Pa), Elijah Brown (Belle Vernon High School) and Karson Brown (Lakewood, Ohio) in Pitt’s Class of 2026.
