Can Ryan Carretta Develop Into a Reliable Center? | Pitt All 105

Pitt All 105 is a Pittsburgh Sports Now series profiling each member of the Pitt 2025 training camp roster. In order to prepare for Pitt football’s 2025 season, PSN is breaking down every player on the roster in alphabetical order. Next up is offensive lineman Ryan Carretta.
As Pitt football looks to strengthen its offensive line this season, the Panthers will need to build valuable depth behind its starters.
Ryan Carretta is one of those linemen that the Panthers will need to see take another step this season as he enters his redshirt sophomore season and looks to attack a new position at center.

Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 305 pounds
Hometown: Galena, Ohio
2024: Carretta saw time in all 13 games primarily on special teams. He did play 15 snaps at right guard, according to Pro Football Focus, and did not allow a sack or take a penalty. In 2023, Carretta did not see any action and redshirted.
Camp outlook: During the spring, Carretta transitioned from guard to center taking a lot of snaps with the second-team unit behind Lyndon Cooper. With Pitt looking to build a sustainable center for the future, Carretta will most likely continue to work at that position in the fall.
Carretta missed the back half of spring camp, so the fall will also give him time to get healthy and more acquainted at center.
Projected role: Carretta will be relied upon as a depth center. However, he may not be the first choice if Cooper goes down with injury as the Panthers slid guard Keith Gouveia over to center during the spring. Still, Carretta will be there as an option if Pitt needs him.
It will be interesting to see how Carretta fairs if he sees the field as he is still on the younger side with no college experience playing center.
A quote from Carretta: “I started a lot with right guard, but switching it up just trying to learn as many positions as a I can to help the team,” Carretta said prior to the 2024 season.
Carretta said on his biggest strength: “I’d say mobility. I feel like I can move a lot quicker.”
