Duquesne FB Lands Pair of Intruiging Florida Recruits

Over the last 48 hours, the Duquesne Dukes football program has received commitments from a couple of talented players in Florida.

Coincidence or not, both of these players attend Edgewater High School in Orlando, Fla.

On Wednesday, 2026 athlete Damian Moore Jr. (6’0″, 200-pounds) announced his commitment to the Duquesne program. This was impressive as Moore chose Duquesne over other offers from Gardner Webb, West Georgia, Navy, Rhode Island, Missouri State, Army, UMass, Bryant, Western Michigan and Delaware.

Commitment No. 2 came on Thursday as Moore’s teammate, Nicholas Collins Jr., also revealed that he’d be bringing his talents to Pittsburgh to play for head coach Jerry Schmitt and Duquesne.

Both Collins and Moore are currently making their official visits to Duquesne.

If the name Nick Collins sounds familiar it should as his father was a Pro Bowl and Super Bowl winning safety with the Green Bay Packers. Collins played with the Packers from 2005 until 2011 and was placed in the Packers Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, his career was cut short due to a serious neck injury.

Pittsburgh Sports Now had the opportunity to catch up with Collins and asked him about this huge decision and what led him to Duquesne.

“The biggest and deciding factor in choosing Duquesne was the connection I had with Coach Mick (Jacobs),” Collins tells PSN. “From the jump, he showed interest in me and made it known that I was his guy and he wanted me at Duquesne. The relationship that I’ve built with him so far is amazing and I’m really looking forward to building that connection with him more when I get up to Duquesne.

“This commitment means everything to me. I’ve grown up around football my whole life so for me to be able to play at the next level is huge and it gets me one step closer to my main goal, which is to play in the NFL. Duquesne just got themselves a player than can make plays anywhere on the field. Personally, I think I’m a versatile player and can do whatever the coaches tell me to do. I can play the slot, guard the WR1, or even more back to safety so I can be anywhere on the field at anytime.”

Duquesne opens its 2025 campaign at Acrisure Stadium against Pitt on August 30.
