Phoenix Waives Megan McConnell Following Injury

While the road for Megan McConnell to fulfill her lifetime dream became more difficult, it certainly isn’t closed.
The former Duquesne great has been waived by the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury following a serious injury to her right knee.
Back on June 3rd in her WNBA debut, McConnell suffered a right knee tibial plateau fracture against the Minnesota Lynx. Prior to the injury, in 13 minutes of action, McConnell collected 3 points, 3 assists and a steal.
In a statement announcing her release, Phoenix said that they will continue to work with McConnell during her rehab process.
In terms of a recovery timeline, tibial plateau fractures can take 3-4 months if no surgery is required, but the typical timeline for that sort of injury is 6-12 months.
McConnell went undrafted in the WNBA Draft but signed a contract with Phoenix on April 17th. After getting cut following training camp, the Mercury re-signed her to her second contract on June 3.

Playing for her hometown school, Duquesne, McConnell set program records in assists (660), steals (370), games played (144), games started (136) along with being a 2-time A-10 All-Conference First team selection and the 2025 A-10 Defensive Player of the Year.
Knowing her personality, work ethic and love for the game, I highly doubt this is the end of McConnell on a basketball court.
