The Pitt men’s basketball team will be taking on an old-time opponent this season.

While it would’ve been nicer if it would have been a non-conference game, Pitt has announced an exhibition matchup against Providence.

The two long-time Big East rivals will square off in an exhibition game on Sunday, October 19th at the Peterson Events Center. The tipoff time for this matchup will be announced at a later date.

The Pitt basketball program reports that a return matchup at Providence for the 2026-27 season is expected to take place.

These two former foes have played 48 times in their history with Pitt holding a 31-17 series lead, with Pitt winning 12 of the last 13 matchups.

Of course, the most memorable game took place in 1988 as that game will always be remembered as the game in which Jerome Lane broke the backboard at the Fitzgerald Fieldhouse.

As the days and weeks pass, more Pitt 2025-26 non-conference games are being announced. Thus far, Pitt has scheduled games against Binghamton, Youngstown State, Texas A&M, West Virginia and Ohio State.
