Washington High School’s Tristan Reed has the qualities to be a high-impact wide receiver in college with his length and athleticism.

On Friday, he locked in his commitment that will allow him to showcase his talents at the FBS level.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pound Reed announced his commitment to Miami (OH) over other offers from Duquesne, Robert Morris and Towson.

Reed’s decision came after an official visit at Oxford, Ohio from June 20-22.

“Felt like home, a great place to be and surround yourself around winners,” Reed told Pittsburgh Sports Now about what led to his decision. “It was beautiful and the whole staff is great along with the players.”

Longtime Redhawks head coach Chuck Martin played an important role in getting Reed to commit.

“Definitely Coach Martin. He was going through some trouble and just his dedication on trying to be there and his love for the game,” Reed said.

Reed’s recruitment picked up during camp season this spring, including his offer from Miami (OH), which came in on June 1 after camping at Pitt at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.

While Reed is being recruited as a wide receiver, he has formed into an impact quarterback for Washington. This past fall, he tossed for 945 yards and added 537 yards on the ground as he totaled 21 touchdowns. He was an All-Conference honorable mention.

When it comes to his receiving, Reed has exactly the skills to develop into an impressive college wide out.

“My athleticism and height is unmatched and my versatility being able to play anywhere and going to Miami to develop me and polishing everything will make me a top player in all of Division 1 football,” Reed said.

Miami (OH) is coming off a relatively successful season with a 9-5 overall record and a 7-1 mark in Mid-American Conference play as the Redhawks reach the conference title game. They would go on to defeat Colorado State in the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl, 43-17.
