Last weekend, the Pitt hoops program played host to a highly-ranked prospect in the class of 2024 by the name of Moses Hipps.
Hipps, a New Jersey native, stands at 6-foot-4 and plays the shooting guard position. The rising junior prospect is ranked as the No. 71 overall player in the nation by 247 Sports’ Composite rankings, and has recently heard from a number of Division One programs including Pitt. On his recent visit to Pitt, Hipps and his father toured the hoops facilities with assistant coach Jason Capel.
“It was good, I liked it a lot,” Hipps told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “I didn’t really get to see much of the campus, but I saw a lot of the facilities. I saw how the practice center is in there, the locker room, the hangout area where the players hang out, the academic center, so it was nice. I really liked it. I liked how everything was in the same place. But at the same time, the arena, where they play, was really nice. The locker room, the hangout area, it was really nice. Those were my favorite parts of the facilities. And their uniforms are tough too. I really liked Pitt and I really feel like it could be a place I could see myself at in the future.”
While Hipps was at Pitt, the Panthers were also hosting four-star big man Papa Kante for an official visit. While the two didn’t get the chance to meet and talk hoops, Hipps says, he did get to meet one of the current Pitt players.
“I didn’t meet the guys that were visiting, but I got to meet Nelly [Cummings],” he said. “Me and Nelly got to exchange Instagrams, he was real cool. I got to talk to him for a while.”
Jason Capel has handled Hipps’ recruitment since the very moment he was allowed to contact players in the class of 2024, back on June 15.
“I really like Coach Jason a lot,” Hipps added. “He’s a genuine person. I met him on June 15 when he first reached out. But he said he’s been watching me since last year in live period so he’s really been waiting to start recruiting me. I appreciate that and I just think he’s a genuine person. I really mess with Coach Capel. I rock with him.”
In addition to Pitt, some of the other programs recruiting Hipps are Missouri, Xavier, Penn State, VCU, Rutgers, Fairfield, Bryant, and more.
