PITTSBURGH — For the second time in as many weeks, Pitt found a way to complete a late-game comeback with quarterback Eli Holstein leading the way.
The redshirt freshman seems to get more confident as the game moves along as that was once again the case on Saturday in the Backyard Brawl victory. Holstein was 4-of-5 in the final 4:13, including a 40-yard touchdown pass to Daejon Reynolds.
Pitt would cap off the come-from-behind win over West Virginia with a one-yard run from Derrick Davis Jr. make it 38-34.
Following the game, Holstein took to the podium to discuss his performance and the Panthers’ resiliency in the win.
Wide receiver Kenny Johnson added on how important Holstein has been to Pitt’s offense through the first three games and what it was like to come away on the winning end of the Backyard Brawl.
Linebackers Brandon George and Kyle Louis further discussed the Panthers’ ability to fight back against the Mountaineers. George also relived his scoop and score during the third quarter that put Pitt in front momentarily, 24-17.
