Busy Day of D-1 Offers for WPIAL Players

With the recruiting period for January winding down today and a dead period in terms of in-person visits, plenty of college coaches have been in Western Pennsylvania this week to visit with and extend offers to players in various classes.

Thursday as an extremely busy day in terms of WPIAL players receiving offers and we’d expect that to continue today.

One D-1 program that continues to recruit this area as hard and actively as I can remember is the Akron Zips, led by head coach Joe Moorhead and special teams coach and local recruiter Ryan Matviko.

Here’s a recap of the offers extended to WPIAL players on Thursday, including seven from Power 4 schools.

Angelo Pugliano– 2026 athlete from Pittsburgh Central Catholic received an offer from Miami, Ohio.

Brock Heisler– 2026 defensive lineman from Hempfield received an offer from Akron.

Brendan Alexander– 2026 offensive lineman from Central Valley High School received an offer from Sacramento State.

Larry Moon– 2027 4-star cornerback (formerly of Aliquippa High School and now of IMG Academy) received an offer from Georgia and SMU.

Lucas Shanafelt- 2026 defensive end/tight end from Peters Township received an offer from UConn.

Chrys Black– 2028 cornerback from Pittsburgh Central Catholic HS received an offer from Kentucky.

Samir Crosby– 2026 athlete from Greensburg Central Catholic High School received an offer from Akron.

Jimmy Kalis– 2027 offensive tackle from Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School received offers from Georgia and South Florida.

Adam Gehm- 2026 tight end from Seneca Valley High School received an offer from Bowling Green.

Khalil Taylor– 2027 4-star athlete from Seton-LaSalle High School received an offer from Kentucky.

John Curran– 2026 offensive lineman from Pine-Richland received an offer from Akron.

Dajour Webb– 2027 lineman from Pine-Richland High School received an offer from Akron (his first D-1 offer).

Lawrence ‘Jay’ Timmons- 2026 defensive back from Pine-Richland High School received an offer from Wisconsin.
