Pitt Renews Rivalry with Old Big East Foe

The Pitt Panthers are renewing an old rivalry with one of their former Big East foes.
CBS Sports basketball insider Jon Rothstein is reporting that Pitt has scheduled a home and home series with the Villanova Wildcats.
Per Rothstein’s report, this series will start this season with Pitt traveling to Villanova with the Wildcats playing a return game next season in Pittsburgh.
The last meeting between these two programs took place back in 2012, with Pitt coming out on top, 79-70.
Villanova’s last win over Pitt is a game that no Panther fan will ever forget as it took place in the NCAA Regional Finals in Boston as Scottie Reynolds layup with .05 seconds left crushed Pitt’s hopes of advancing to the Final Four.
The first meeting between these two teams took place in 1983, with Villanova holding the all-time series lead 32-21.

The Pitt basketball programs intent to beef up their non-conference schedule is becoming obvious.
At this point, Pitt has 2025 non-conference games scheduled with Villanova, Ohio State, West Virginia, Texas A&M and Central Florida.
