Nebraska Hires Mark Whipple as Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach

One day after resigning from Pitt, Mark Whipple has officially been named the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Nebraska.

Reports surfaced on Tuesday that Whipple formally interviewed in Arizona on Sunday with Nebraska head coach Scott Frost.

The 64-year old Whipple joined Pitt’s staff in 2019, following a four-year stint as head coach at UMass. Prior to that, Whipple was offensive coordinator at Miami and spent time in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns.

Whipple received national recognition this season for being in charge of one of the most dynamic offenses in college football along with mentoring and helping to develop Heisman Trophy candidate Kenny Pickett. Pitt led the ACC in scoring (43 points per game), second in yards per game (502.9 yds) and total passing yards (4,553).

Following a disappointing 3-7 season, Frost has made a number of coaching changes including firing four offensive assistants, which included offensive coordinator Matt Lubick.
