Pitt QB Davis Beville Enters the Transfer Portal

Davis Beville’s final appearance at Pitt may not have ended the way he would have liked, with a loss in the 2021 Peach Bowl against Michigan State, but the former three-star recruit will always have the memory of throwing a touchdown in a New Year’s Six Bowl game.

Beville entered the transfer portal Thursday afternoon, with the NCAA Transfer Portal Twitter account announcing his decision. Beville spent three seasons at Pitt after arriving in 2019.

With Kedon Slovis and Nick Patti locked in a competition for the starting spot in 2022, Beville would have been locked into the No. 3 spot on the depth chart, so his chances at seeing the field in 2022 would have likely only come in the event of injuries to both Slovis and Patti. It was only a matter of time before a Pitt quarterback entered the portal, and it just turned out that Beville was the one to do it.

Beville enrolled at Pitt as a three-star recruit out of Greenville, South Carolina in 2019. As the top-ranked recruit in the class and one of the highest-ranked quarterbacks landed by Pat Narduzzi, Beville was never able to make the impact many hoped he would. 

After redshirting in 2019, Beville played sparingly during the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He completed 5-of-10 pass attempts in 2020 for 30 yards in 2020, and he took over for an injured Nick Patti in the Peach Bowl, completing 14-of-18 pass attempts for 149 yards with a touchdown and interception.

He finishes his career at Pitt with 207 yards and a touchdown on 17-of-22 pass attempts in eight appearances over the last two seasons.

Aside from Slovis and Patti, Pitt’s roster still includes Joey Yellen (who will presumably step into the No. 3 role), 2021 three-star Nate Yarnell and walk-ons Eli Kosanovich and Jake Frantl.

With Beville’s scholarship off the books, Pitt now has 84 players on scholarship as of this moment, and that leaves room for one more scholarship player entering the 2022 season. If Narduzzi wishes to use the transfer portal further this spring and summer, he will have the chance to add one more scholarship player — in the event further movement doesn’t take place.
