With both the Atlantic 10 Men’s and Women’s Basketball media day scheduled for Monday in Washington, D.C., the conference released both preseason polls and all-conference honors prior to the event tipping off.

The men’s poll was voted on by each of the 15 coaches and one select media member for each team. The women’s poll is solely voted on by the 15 coaches.

In the men’s poll, Duquesne placed eighth in the preseason poll, but did receive a first-place vote.

Not to be outdone, the women’s poll also was released with Megan McConnell replicating her honors from the end of last season being named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference First and Defensive Teams.

McConnell enters her final season fifth all-time in rebounds (835), sixth in assists (489) and steals (232), is tied for seventh in career assist average (4.4 per game) and is tied for eighth in career rebounding average at 7.6 per game.

“I’m going to give you my best effort every day and am expecting the same in return from my teammates,” McConnell explained following a summer practice. “Some days are not going to be good days, but we just have to find a way to fight through the bad days to get to the good ones. I came here for one sole reason and that was to win an A-10 championship. I just try to lead by example, but I also want to lead by my voice because I feel like a lot of girls do respect and look up to me, so I just want to set the best example I can to show what it takes to win a championship because I’ve done it before, but not at the college level.”

Duquesne as a team was selected preseason sixth.
