Diggs — a 5-foot-11, 165-pound talent — has been gathering D-I offers since the spring prior to his junior season. He received offers from Marshall, Akron, Bowling Green, Howard, Morgan State, Hampton, Albany, New Hampshire and VMI.
His Maine offer came on March 31 of this year from corners coach Spencer Carey and the Black Bears continued to build on the relationship which included sending handwritten letters in the mail. The decision to commit to the Black Bears came after a recent visit to the school at the end of June.
Diggs shined for Gateway on defense as a junior, logging 42 tackles, four tackles for loss, 12 pass breakups, two interceptions and two force fumbles. Along with Gateway, he played for one of the top 7v7 teams, 412 Elite Black.
“We talk about invisible preparation — a lot of stuff that people don’t see that results in what people do see — and Carlos is the epitome of that,” Gateway head coach Don Holl said last summer. “He works tremendously hard at every aspect of his craft. His arrow’s pointing up. He keeps getting better and better. When all is said and done, he’s going to be a really good collegiate prospect.”

For the second year in a row, Maine has landed a WPIAL prospect after Montour wide receiver Daniel Batch committed and signed to the Black Bears in the 2025 cycle.
In 2024, Maine finished with a 5-7 record and 3-5 mark in Coastal Athletic Conference play.
