Clint Session never played Cal during his time in at Pitt, but he has the opportunity to kick off the newly-minted ACC matchup Saturday afternoon.

Session, a four-year letterman at Pitt in the early 2000s, is back in town to serve as the honorary captain as Pitt take on Cal for the first time since 1966. Pat Narduzzi announced Session’s captainship Saturday morning and outlined his credentials:

  • 2004 Big East champion
  • 2006 Pitt captain
  • 4-year letterman
  • 2004 Ed Conway Award winner
  • Led country with five forced fumbles in 2006
  • Over 250 career tackles
  • 4th round selection in 2007 NFL Draft
  • Spent five seasons in the NFL

Session initially committed to Pitt as a three-star prospect out of Pompano Beach, Fla., an area that the coaching staff values these days. He immediately made an impact for the Panthers.

Session recorded 259 tackles, 2.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles and three interceptions in four seasons at Pitt, emerging as one of the best linebackers in the country during his senior season.

He recorded 101 tackles (67 solo), 12 tackles for loss, a sack, an interception returned for a touchdown and five forced fumbles as a senior.

The Indianapolis Colts selected Session with the 136th pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, and he spent four seasons with the Colts before finishing his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Session recorded 295 tackles (230 solo), 21 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, four interceptions (including one returned for a touchdown) and 11 pass breakups in five seasons in the NFL.

Session is the fifth honorary captain for the Panthers this season, joining former offensive lineman Jason Pinkston, former long snapper Cal Adomitis, former offensive lineman Mike McGlynn and former tight end J.P. Holtz.

Pitt is in action this weekend at Acrisure Stadium, hosting a Cal squad that suffered a controversial loss to Miami Saturday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
