Pine-Richland DB Makes Major Jump in 2026 Rankings

Pine-Richland defensive back Lawrence ‘Jay’ Timmons continues to see his stock increase as a national recruit and the latest comes from a major jump in the 2026 rankings.
Since the merger of Rivals and On3 on July 1, Rivals will now carry all high school recruiting duties between the two. In it’s first Rivals300 rankings since the two recruiting services came together, Timmons received a massive boost, going from unranked to one of the top prospects in the nation.
Timmons checked in as the No. 39 recruit in the 2026 class and the Florida State commit becomes a consensus four-star prospect. Rivals also lists him as the No. 5 cornerback and second-ranked player out of Pennsylvania.

In a Rivals article, Timmons was highlighted as one of the biggest risers. A quote from national scout Cody Bellaire was included:
“Lawrence “Jay” Timmons has been a menace on the camp circuit this spring and summer. His ability to mirror and blanket receivers is almost second nature to him. The instincts and recovery speed to stay in-phase with receivers throughout the route is impressive, but it’s his ability to play through the hands and make plays on the football that makes him one of the more complete packages at the position. Timmons has some of the best pure cover skills of any cornerback in the country.”
Timmons saw his recruitment take off late in his junior season as he fielded offers from Pitt, Indiana, Virginia, Iowa State, Iowa, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Syracuse and others.
He made a verbal pledge to Indiana in late April, but flipped his commitment to Florida State — the school his father, longtime NFL and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons, went to — on June 24.
As a junior, Timmons earned First-Team All-State honors after compiling 42 tackles, four interceptions, 10 pass breakups and three forced fumbles. He also added 40 receptions for 755 yards and eight touchdowns.
Of note, no other WPIAL players were included in the Rivals300 list.
