Pitt hadn’t offered Fred Gaskin when he announced his top eight on Jan. 11, but after extending an offer later that month, Pitt has already risen into a contender’s status.
Gaskin — a 5-foot-10, 180-pound four-star defensive back from Vanguard High School in Ocala, Florida — told Pittsburgh Sports Now that he will be taking an official visit to Pittsburgh from June 22-24.

He hasn’t announced any other official visits to this point, but his top eight included Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Colorado, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Penn State.
Pitt jumped into the mix on Jan. 25, with Tim Salem and Cory Sanders leading the recruiting chase, and while he hasn’t made it out to Pittsburgh to this point, the biggest opportunity possible is an official visit.
As a junior at Vanguard, playing across the secondary, Gaskin recorded 23 tackles, three interceptions, nine pass breakups and forced a fumble.
247Sports rates Gaskin as the 299th-ranked recruit in the class (28th-ranked safety and the 45th-ranked recruit from Florida) while Rivals rates him as the 96th-ranked recruit in the class (eighth-ranked safety and the 22nd-ranked recruit from Florida).
On3 rates him as the 331st-ranked recruit in the class (30th-ranked safety and the 50th-ranked recruit from Florida).
As one of the final official visitors making it out to Pittsburgh, he’s joined by a large group of recruits, including fellow Floridians in four-star defensive lineman Sincere Edwards, three-star defensive end Gavench Marcelin.
