The PIAA state wrestling championships at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania are finally here.
Both the Class-2A and Class-3A tournaments will look a little different in 2021. In particular, the brackets will feature just eight competitors rather than the customary 20 wrestlers per weight class in each bracket. Additionally each tournament will take place as a single-day event.
With that, the Class-2A tournament will be Friday, March 12 and the the 3A tournament will get started Saturday, March 13 to cap off the 2021 PIAA individual postseason.
The 208 total grapplers that will take the mats of the Giant Center later this weekend have been tested more than any other group of state qualifiers in recent memory. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the PIAA decided that from a health and safety standpoint, it would be wiser to have single-day postseason events and smaller overall participant fields. To achieve this, two additional qualifying events were added to the postseason schedules in Subsection tournaments and Super Regional qualifying tournaments.
