The transfer portal is officially open, and the Pitt Panthers haven’t had many announcements today, but the first has arrived.
David Ojiegbe — a 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive end from Largo, Md. — entered the transfer portal Monday after one season with the program. He played sparingly during his lone season in Pittsburgh.
Ojiegbe is the third defensive lineman to enter the portal this offseason, joining Nahki Johnson and Elliot Donald. He likely won’t be the last either.
Ojiegbe initially committed to Clemson out of St. John’s College High as a high four-star recruit in the class of 2023 and spent one season with the Tigers before entering the portal. He committed to Pitt last winter, arriving as a high-upside edge rusher, but he wasn’t able to earn consistent playing time.
He played just 50 snaps this season, recording five tackles (two solo), a tackle for loss and a sack in 10 games. He re-enters the portal with three seasons of eligibility remaining and the chance to potentially find a program where he will be more featured.
Pitt is set to lose Nate Matlack, and while Nate Temple is up in the air, there’s still a need at defensive end. Jimmy Scott, Sincere Edwards and Chief Borders form a solid trio, but the Panthers could use a true impact edge out of the portal.
