No. 4 Pitt Volleyball Takes Care of Wake Forest in Three Sets

Published

The Pitt volleyball team busted out the brooms for the 10th time this season, defeating ACC opponent Wake Forest in three sets.

The Panthers (19-2 ACC, 9-2), No. 4 in the nation, led 20-11 at one point early on against the Demon Deacons (11-11, 2-9), but an 8-2 Wake Forest run made it a close one at the end, with Pitt coming on top 25-20.

11 ties and four lead changes marked the second, with Pitt struggling a little to put away a struggling Wake Forest team. The Panthers prevailed in the final points to claim a 25-22 win for the closest margin of victory on the night.

Wake Forest began the third set with an early lead, but the Panthers fought back and completed an 11-2 run to silence the Demon Deacons on Halloween weekend for the Fitzgerald Field House.

Kayla Lund led the Blue and Gold with 11 kills. Lexis Akeo guided Pitt with 16 assists, and Leketor Member-Meneh recorded a match-high two aces.

The Panthers are back at home Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. showdown with Virginia Tech.
