Incoming Pitt G Brandin Cummings Named 4A Player of the Year

Brandin “Beebah” Cummings has accomplished almost everything you can imagine at the high school level.

Cummings — a 6-foot-3, 170-pound guard from Lincoln Park in Midland, Pa. — scored 2,000 career points, won back-to-back PIAA championships and is now the Pennsylvania 4A Player of the Year.

He was also named to the All-State 4A first-team, alongside five-star teammate and Pitt target Meleek Thomas.

Cummings was an unstoppable buzzsaw throughout much of his senior season, as evidenced by the way he blitzed Archbishop Carroll in the PIAA title game. He poured in 37 points on 14-of-18 shooting, leading the Leopards to an 80-50 victory.

It was the second consecutive state title for Lincoln Park, following a 62-58 victory over Neumann-Goretti in 2023, and it was the final high school game of Cummings’ decorated prep career.

The next stop is following in his older brother Nelly’s footsteps in Pittsburgh.

“I love Pitt,” Cummings told PSN in February. “I’ve been a huge Pitt guy for obviously the last two years. I can’t wait to get up there. Those guys are already like my brothers. I’m already close with everybody up there.”

Cumming was recently elevated to a four-star recruit, ranked as a four-star by ESPN and Rivals, and it’s the second year in a row that Jeff Capel has brought in a four-star guard (or two) from the high school level. It worked out well in the 2023-24 season.

With former Pitt guard Bub Carrington declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft, it creates an early opportunity for Cummings to arrive and immediately contribute.

Pitt returns Jaland Lowe and Ish Leggett for the 2024-25 season, and while there may be a veteran option added to the back court, Cummings should feature in the rotation next season.
