Die-Hards: Keeping Track of Pitt Scholarship Count

Published

on

Pitt football.

It was inevitable that more than a few Pitt Panthers would enter the transfer portal this spring.

Pitt exited the spring with a somewhat bloated roster. It was well over the 85-scholarship limit, and with the desire to actually supplement the roster before summer camp, some guys needed to go. There have been a couple of unsurprising portal entrants and a couple of surprise ones, too.

That’s the nature of college football in the NIL era.

The transfer portal re-opened on April 16 and will close on April 30, but that doesn’t mean a player must commit by April 30. If a player has his request to transfer sent to his university’s compliance office by the deadline, he can enter the portal. A team can host prospective transfers during the April 16-30 window.

But even after the portal closes on April 30 (and there will be plenty of movement until then), the Pitt roster will not be finalized.
