Incoming Pitt 2024 Guard Brandin Cummings Elevated To 4-Star Recruit

Published

on

For the second consecutive recruiting class, Jeff Capel has brought in a 4-star guard to the Pitt basketball program.

For the Class of 2023, Pitt recruited and signed 4-star guards Bub Carrington (Baltimore, Maryland) and Jaland Lowe (Missouri City, Texas).

Up until today, Pitt 2024 signee Brandin Cummings (Lincoln Park HS) was a 3-star recruit but that changed on Wednesday as Rivals.com elevated Cummings to 4-star status.

Cummings put an exclamation point on his high school career by scoring 37 points (15-19 from the field) in Lincoln Park’s PIAA Class 4A Championship win over Archbishop Carroll.

Considering the rise in his overall game, it’ll be interesting to see what role Cummings is able to have next season with Pitt. While it’s still too early to project, it looks as though Cummings could have a similar role as Carrington and Lowe had this past season and get considerable minutes off the bench.

With both Ish Leggett and recent addition Damian Dunn graduating after the 2024-25 season, Cummings will have an opportunity to have a prominent role following his freshman season.

Speaking of 4-star recruits, take a look at Jeff Capel’s last 2 recruiting classes.

CLASS OF 2024:
Brandin Cummings 4-star guard (Lincoln Park HS)

Amdy Ndiaye 3-star forward (Putnam, Connecticut)

CLASS OF 2023:
Pape Kante 4-star center (South Kent, Connecticut)

Jaland Lowe 4-star guard (Missouri City, Texas)

Bub Carrington 4-star guard (Baltimore, Maryland)

Marlon Barnes 3-star forward (Lyndhurt, Ohio)

He is a bonafide 4 star recruit. Seeing him play in person a bunch of times I was surprised he was only 3 stars by rivals. He was just as valuable to Lincoln
Park as Maleek Thomas was.

No doubt. People need to realize, he is playing big time minutes next season. We don’t need any more guards.

You are right. He can be like Bub and Lowe were this year.

If he was going to Kentucky or Duke, he would be a 5 start already
