Pitt One of Many Schools to Contact Transfer Guard Elijah Hawkins

While Pitt’s back court is already looking strong with Jaland Lowe, Ishmael Leggett, and Damian Dunn, the Panthers may still be searching for a guard to bolster its rotation even more.

The Panthers’ staff was one of many to reach out to Minnesota transfer point guard Elijah Hawkins, per source. Hawkins entered the transfer portal on Monday, and has already heard from the following programs: Kentucky, Creighton, Texas Tech, Villanova, Florida State, South Carolina, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Seton Hall, Oklahoma State, Pitt, Tennessee, Georgia, Vanderbilt, and Washington State.

Hawkins is a 5-foot-11 guard who transferred to Minnesota from Howard last year. He has been one of the top passers in college hoops for the last three seasons, averaging around six assists per game in his two year stint at Howard and increasing that average all the way up to 7.5 assists per game this year with the Gophers.

Hawkins made 39% of his field goals this past season and also shot 36% from three-point range as a Gopher.

The Panthers have added two prospects from the transfer portal already this season, bringing in the Houston transfer Dunn and Florida State transfer big man Cameron Corhen. Prior to this past season, Dunn previously played for Temple, where he averaged 15.3 points and three assists per game in the 2022-23 season. Corhen spent the last two years in Tallahassee, averaging 9.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game this past year.

Pitt’s current back court includes sophomore Jaland Lowe, senior Ishmael Leggett, graduate student Damian Dunn, and freshman Brandin Cummings. The Panthers still have two open scholarships heading into next season.

A shooting wing or power forward should be a necessity over another guard (we have 4 guards already). Desperately need replacement for Blake.
Go PITT 🏀!!!
