Tuesday afternoon, Pitt head coach Jeff Capel addressed the media, including Pittsburgh Sports Now, to preview the upcoming 2024-25 basketball season.

Capel has now met with the media three times this offseason: once for Bub Carrington’s NBA Draft announcement, once later in the summer to discuss the offseason additions to the team, the Olympics, The Basketball Tournament, and more, and now, today. Weeks ago, Pitt announced that freshman wing Amsal Delalic will miss six weeks (from the date of Sept. 26) due to a hand injury.
Following this press conference today, Capel will now travel with Jaland Lowe and Ishmael Leggett to Charlotte, North Carolina for ACC media day.
Pitt is heading into year seven of the Jeff Capel-era, coming off a second-straight 20-win season. The Panthers finished last year 22-11, but said goodbye to stars Bub Carrington (Washington Wizards) and Blake Hinson (Golden State Warriors) as they went off to the professional level. In addition, the Panthers said goodbye to Federiko Federiko (Texas Tech) and William Jeffress (Louisiana Tech), as both players transferred out this past spring.
Pitt returns key players Lowe, Leggett, and Zack Austin, among others. The staff also brought in a talented group of newcomers, headlined by transfers Cam Corhen (Florida State) and Damian Dunn (Houston) as well as freshmen Brandin “Beebah” Cummings, Amdy Ndiaye, and Delalic.
