The WPIAL Recruiting Wraparound takes stock of the latest news in football recruiting within the WPIAL and City League.

California will take the field at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday as an ACC member against the Pitt Panthers. The Golden Bears are making themselves familiar with Western Pennsylvania football by taking an interest and offering a trio of Central Catholic teammates over the past week.

Jimmy Kalis — a 6-foot-6, 280-pound offensive lineman — picked up an offer from the Bears Friday morning. Kalis is one of the most recruited linemen out of the Pittsburgh area in the class of 2027 with offers from Pitt, West Virginia, Ole Miss, North Carolina State, Syracuse, Maryland, Duke and more.

Throughout the fall, Kalis has been busy visiting programs to receive a game-day experience, including at Ohio State last weekend. This Saturday, Kalis will take another major visit at Georgia as the Bulldogs take on Mississippi State.

Zachary Gleason Jr. — a 6-foot, 165-pound defensive back — also added an offer from the Cal Golden Bears. It comes as Gleason’s first offer since joining Central Catholic for his sophomore season after playing at Chartiers Valley his freshman year. He now holds three D-I offers along with Pitt and Akron.

Earlier in the week, Central Catholic linebacker Colson Gatten received an offer from Cal. The 2026 three-star prospect holds a long list of offers from Pitt, Wisconsin, Penn State, Nebraska, Duke, Tennessee, West Virginia, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Michigan, Oklahoma, Maryland, Kentucky, Boston College, Texas A&M, Michigan State and Temple.

Mid-Season Offers Pour Into WPIAL

Several other Division I recruits collected offers this past week.

Fort Cherry four-star quarterback/safety Matt Sieg picked up an ACC offer from the Virginia Cavaliers. Sieg continues to torment opposing defenses with 900 rushing yards, 435 passing yards and 15 total touchdowns.

The highly-coveted 2026 prospect has offers from Penn State, West Virginia, Pitt, USC, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, Michigan State, Rutgers, Maryland, Syracuse and others.

One of the fastest-rising prospects in the WPIAL, Peters Township edge rusher Reston Lehman, added another offer, this time from the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Lehman has now picked up offers from Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia, Maryland, Minnesota, Boston College and Eastern Michigan in just one month.

Steel Valley star athlete Donald Barksdale added an offer from FCS Youngstown State. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound senior is coming off of a junior campaign in which he ran for 2,000-plus yards and 36 touchdowns.

He holds offers from Bowling Green, Albany, Robert Morris, Morgan State, Youngstown State, Duquesne, Bryant, Howard and Merrimack.

Barksdale is not the only WPIAL player who picked up an offer from the Penguins this week as McKeesport’s Valdez Stuvaints landed his first D-I offer from YSU. Stuvaints is a senior safety for the Tigers.

Also picking up their first D-I offer was South Allegheny senior Camden Lewis from the Sacred Heart Pioneers. The linebacker/athlete has been a key fixture for the 6-1 Gladiators as he has run for 368 yards and a team-leading nine touchdowns.

Nicholas Humphries Locks in Commitment with Drake

North Allegheny defensive back Nicholas Humphries announced his commitment to Drake University this week. The Bulldogs were Humphries’ lone D-I offer, coming back in June.

The 6-foot, 170-pound prospect has led North Allegheny this season of defense with 10 pass breakups, along with 19 total tackles and an interception.

Cunningham Receives Star Treatment

South Park senior Parker Cunningham is one of the top offensive linemen in the entire WPIAL and he added some star prowess next to his name. On3 and Rivals rated Cunningham as a three-star recruit this week. On3 has Cunningham listed as the 42nd-best player from Pa. in the class, along with the 157th interior lineman.

The 6-foot-4, 295-pound lineman committed to James Madison in June over offers such as Buffalo, Maine, Princeton, Lehigh, Richmond, Holy Cross, Duquesne, Robert Morris, Towson and others.
