On Saturday afternoon, Robert Morris took down St. Francis with a strong second-half effort led by Alvaro Folgueiras and company.
After a tight first half, the Colonials went into the locker room with a three-point lead. In the second half, Andy Toole’s squad battled with St. Francis for the first five minutes, trading baskets. Then, after trailing 53-52, RMU went on an explosive 12-0 run with just over 12 minutes remaining in the game.
Numerous buckets from Alvaro Folgueiras paved the way for Robert Morris. Kam Woods, Ryan Prather, and others also contributed in the run, which expanded the Colonials’ lead up to 63-53 with 11 minutes to play.
In the final ten minutes of the matchup, RMU continued to look to Folgueiras, who dominated the game on both ends. His work on the glass, as well as his back-to-the-basket scoring ability, kept the Colonials ahead. Prather and Woods continued to make shots, and forward Amarion Dickerson joined in on the action, scoring on two-straight possessions late. Dickerson made a layup and a three pointer late, extending RMU’s lead all the way up to 14 with just over two minutes remaining.
Folgueiras finished the game with an excellent 27-point, 16-rebound stat line, going 9 for 14 from the field. Woods followed with one of his best all-around games of the year, scoring 19 points and dishing out seven assists. Dickerson turned in another strong outing with 16 points and six rebounds, while Josh Omojafo added 12 points in the win.
The Colonials won the game 90-77, advancing to 8-5 on the season. Robert Morris now has Northern Kentucky up next. The Colonials will take on the Norse on Sunday, Dec. 29 at UPMC Events Center in Moon. That game will tip off at 2 p.m., as the Colonials will look to earn their first Horizon League victory.
