Hopewell 6th Grade Travel Pull Out OT Win Over Beaver Falls

The Hopewell 6th Grade Girls Travel entered tonight’s game on a 3-game losing streak and coming off a tough loss to a very talented Aliquippa team.

However, the Lady Vikings knew that it wouldn’t be easy as they took on the undefeated Beaver Falls Tigers.

This game was tightly contested contest where both teams had the lead but a late game spurt led Hopewell to a 26-22 overtime win!

The win by Hopewell gave Beaver Falls their first loss of the season!

Leading the Lady Vikings in scoring tonight was Nevaeh Pope with 10, followed by Rilynn Davis with 8, Talia Santia with 4, Cora Quinn and Isla Rock both with 2 points.

Following baskets by Pope and Santia, Hopewell went out ahead 10-5 but Beaver Falls went on a 8-0 run to take a 13-10 lead.

Hopewell resounded with baskets from Davis and Pope but the Tigers answered and eventually took their biggest lead of the game, 20-16.

Coach Yurcina’s team then ended the game on a 10-2 run. Hopewell tied the game at 20 after baskets from Rock and Pope. The basket by Pope sent game into overtime.

Hopewell scored the first basket of overtime on a basket from Davis and then went up 24-20 after a basket from Pope. Beaver Falls scored to cut Hopewell’s lead to 24-22, but Davis ended their hopes with another field goal.

Great job responding to adversity tonight ladies and defeating a talented team.

Next up for Hopewell is a contest on Saturday against Ambridge.
