The official start of the 2025 college football season is quickly approaching and over the upcoming days, all conferences will be holding their media days, including the ACC.

The 17 different ACC football programs are gathered in Charlotte, N.C. and these teams will be spending the next three days discussing their expectations for the 2025 season.

The Pitt Panthers will be center stage tomorrow as head coach Pat Narduzzi, along with running back Desmond Reid, offensive lineman Lyndon Cooper, linebacker Kyle Louis and defensive Javon McIntyre will speak and represent Pitt.

As ACC Kickoff coverage began this morning, conference commissioner Jim Phillips was first to take the stage and held a press conference with the assembled media.

Here were the top headlines to come from the commissioner’s press conference:

*This is a big one and is obviously tied to gambling. Player availability reports will be required in football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball in conference games. As it pertains to football, a player’s updated health status must be issued two days before games, with updates one day before along with on game day. At this point, there isn’t a fine structure in place yet for late or untruthful reports.

*On conference scheduling: Phillips likes where the thing stands but “if the SEC ends up going to nine (conference games), maybe we end up going to nine.”

*On field or court storming: When this occurs, schools will be subjected to fine. Fine structure- $50,000 for first offense, $100,000 for second offense and $200,000 for third offense.

*On college football playoff expansion talk: “We all recognize the importance of coming together for a (model) that is truly best for all of college football. Fairness and access are paramount,” said Phillips. Says the ACC is open to 5+9, 5+11 expanded formats.

*Commissioner Phillips says that most of the ACC men’s basketball coaches favor NCAA tournament expansion, but most of its women’s coaches are opposed.
