Tyler Sear Talks LSU Offer

Pat Narduzzi and his staff have actively recruited players committed to other schools in the past week, and now another school is recruiting one of their own. Today, 6’5” 255-pound tight end commit Tyler Sear received an offer to play football for the LSU Tigers. Ty was kind enough to set aside a few minutes on his Friday night to speak with Pittsburgh Sports Now about his offer from LSU.

“Coach Mateos from LSU just DM’d me, and he was just letting me know that I had a scholarship to LSU,” Tyler told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “I mean, it kind of took me by surprise a little bit, but I was just thankful to have it.”

Other than the scholarship offer, not much was discussed during their DM exchange.

“He just said I had an offer and then asked if I was interested,” Tyler explained.

The offer from LSU came as a bit of a surprise, since LSU has had little contact with the 3-star recruit from Neshannock High School throughout the recruiting process.

“I have conversed with Coach Mateos in the past, but only once or twice,” Tyler said. “Kind of sporadic.”

Sear cannot say the same for Pitt. The Class of 2017 tight end frequently speaks with members of the Panthers’ staff. Yesterday, head coach Pat Narduzzi and cornerbacks coach Renaldo Hill visited Tyler at his home in Neshannock, PA. According to Sear, the visit went well.

“We just had a great visit. Being close to Pitt, I’ve had the chance to meet with them multiple times, and last night was just a good chance to have a less formal setting and just have like a normal day. They actually came to basketball practice after my house and got to meet my coaches and my teammates.”

When asked about his relationship with Pat Narduzzi, Ty shared nothing but praise.

“He’s really cool. I love Coach Narduzzi. He’s a really down-to-earth guy and I’m really thankful to have the opportunity to play under him.”

Tyler committed to Pitt in August of 2016. He originally pledged to play for Matt Rhule and the Temple Owls, but viewed the offer from Pitt as an opportunity he “simply could not pass up.” Is LSU, one of the most successful football programs in recent years, the next offer Ty cannot refuse?

“I mean, it’s LSU and you’d have to be insane to not be interested,” Sear shared.” But I’m committed to Pitt, and I’m really happy with Pitt and moving forward…Pitt is my school and always will be my school.”

Ty doubts he will converse much with LSU or explore his options as a Tiger going forward. When asked if he will make an official visit, he replied: “Probably not. No.”

Although his previous two comments make it sound like Panther fans have little to worry about, one last question had to be asked: Does Tyler Sear remain a firm Pitt commitment, even with the offer from LSU?

“Yes, sir,” Tyler replied.

Anything can happen before signing day, but it sounds as though Tyler Sear is a player that will be wearing blue and gold in the near future.
