Pitt FB Recruiting

The Latest With Paris Ford

Ever since committing to Pitt back in October of 2015, Paris Ford has been the jewel of Pitt’s 2017 recruiting class. Despite getting offers from some of the top programs in the country, Ford has remained committed to Pitt.

Could that be changing?

Last week, Ford opened up the eyes of a lot of people throughout the country with his practices and game performance in the UA All-American Game in Orlando, Florida. Talent evaluators and the nation found out what people in Western Pennsylvania already knew:  Ford is a really, really good player.

Matt Shodell from Rivals (Miami, Florida) wrote a story that has the recruiting world buzzing. Shodell has a story with the title, “UM making move with Pitt commit: ‘Miami has real strong shot.'”

The story indicates that Ford is likely to make an official visit to Miami in the next couple of weeks and that some players at the All Star game believe that Ford could flip from Pitt.

With three weeks left until National Letter of Intent Day, this is not the news that the Pitt coaching staff wanted to hear but in some ways it’s probably not a total surprise. Keep in mind, Ford is a national recruit and this happens with all of them. Coaches from opposing teams will continually push for kids that they really want to at least come make an official visit. If you remember, the exact thing happened last year late with Henry Miller and Miami.

Another thing to consider is that Ford gave his commitment to Pitt way back in 2015 and has never had the opportunity to make an official visit anywhere. Remember, he’s a 17 year old kid that’s about to graduate high school. Official visits are a chance to experience other cities and to see other parts of the country.

With all this being said, am I saying that Ford is a lock to keep his commitment to Pitt? No. I have no idea what Ford is thinking and in the end, he’ll make the decision that he feels is best for him.  Obviously, Pat Narduzzi and Pitt fans hope that he decides to stay in the 412.

We’ll do our best to provide you with updates throughout the day and over the next few weeks. My advice to Pitt fans, respect Paris Ford and respect the recruiting process.

The Paris Ford Watch is on.
