Pitt will add at least two defensive tackles to their 2018 recruiting class. One of the most coveted recruits on their radar happens to be 6-foot-3 inch, 295 pound Jefferson Hills (PA) Thomas Jefferson High School defensive tackle Devin Danielson. Danielson attended the Panthers junior day activities last weekend and came away impressed.

“Junior day went great. I love everything about Pitt. I can’t wait to get back to a spring practice,” said Danielson. “I arrived around 9AM, we went and ate and then they introduced all of the coaches then they introduced all of the coaches. I got to meet the new defensive line coach (Charlie Partridge) and it was great meeting him.”

“Pitt’s the hometown team and I like the direction of the football program. They have their eye on championships and it would be great to be part of that.”

Danielson has received scholarship offers from Pitt, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kent State, Louisville, Rutgers, Syracuse, Toledo, UCLA, Virginia, West Virginia and Virginia Tech. He’s generally considered one of the top defensive tackle prospects in the mid-Atlantic region.

When asked about his strengths on the football field he stated, “I’m explosive, hardworking and I never give up on a play. I’m a decent pass rusher and I’ll still working on that.”

Danielson indicated that he will attempt to visit spring practices for the ACC teams pursing him. This would include Pitt, Louisville, Virginia and Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers added his former teammate, 2017 outside linebacker signee Zane Zandier.

“I’m hoping to get back to Pitt for spring ball and get to know Coach Partridge better. Coach (Pat) Narduzzi told me I’m high up on their list for defensive tackles.”

NOTE: Butler Area High School’s Jake Kradel is generally considered an offensive line prospect. Enamored with his athleticism, the Panthers like him as at defensive tackle. If the Panther could sign Kradel and Devin Danielson, they would more than likely fill their quota at the position for the class of 2018.
