Cam Johnson Transfers to N. Carolina

The Cam Johnson transfer soap opera is close to being over.

Today, the former Pitt guard decided on his destination but his start date is still up in the air.

Johnson announced today that he’s going to transfer to ACC foe North Carolina. The question now is whether he’ll have one or two years to play.

Because he’s attempting to transfer to a conference school, Pitt has contested the transfer and want Johnson to sit this upcoming season.

Johnson, his father and North Carolina believe that because he’s a graduate transfer the normal transfer rule of sitting out a season shouldn’t apply to him.

This transfer has received a lot of national attention and Pitt and Kevin Stallings has drawn heavy criticism from ESPN announcer Jay Bilas. The broadcaster has seemed to really target Pitt with his criticism and a lot if people, including myself, think Bilas has gone overboard with his thoughts.

Stallings has a close relationship with North Carolina coach Roy Williams so we’ll see if that causes Stallings to change his stance.

North Carolina is hoping that Johnson will replace Justin Jackson, who will be a lottery pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.
